What we do

At The Media Society we host regular events to discuss the hot topics and consider the issues at the heart of what's going on in the media right now. We look at the past and debate the future.

Recent meetings have covered privacy and the press, political reporting, the development of digital media and the future of public service broadcasting. Leading media figures – newsmakers and opinion-formers in their own right – and some of the best speakers in the country make sure that the debates are always well-informed and entertaining.

All our events take place at great London venues including the Groucho Club in Soho and the Marylebone Hotel off Marylebone High Street.

In addition, we award a bursary to a promising student from a university journalism department.

Over the past 20 years The Media Society has held an award dinner to recognising a person or organisation judged to have made a particularly distinguished contribution to the industry. This major event is one of the highlights of The Media Society calendar.

Recipients of this prestigious award have included iconic figures such as Alistair Cooke KBE, David Dimbleby, Sir Geoffrey Cox CNZM CBE, Sir David Frost OBE, John Humphrys, Sir Charles Wheeler CMG, Sir Michael Parkinson CBE, Paul Dacre, Gillian Reynolds MBE, Jon Snow, Jenni Murray OBE, Sir David Attenborough CBE FRS, Dame Ann Leslie, Reuters, Jeremy Paxman, Melvyn Bragg, Alan Rusbridger, Nick Davies of the Guardian, Michael Grade, Sir Harold Evans and Alan Yentob.
